“Outliers”, A Black Women’s Theater Showcase, features Sikivu Hutchinson, Jessica Robinson, Cydney Wayne Davis and Dee Freeman in four theater solo and ensemble plays. The performances focus on the
intersectional lived experiences, personal and social histories of the four “fiftysomething” and “sixtysomething” African American female principals and will feature multigenerational actors of African descent from L.A. County. The showcase will also spotlight local multigenerational Black women musicians in the rap, hip hop, folk and rock genres in vignettes that will run between the four theater pieces. Hutchinson’s piece “The Kinderness” is an in-progress speculative fiction play which addressesissues of racial and gender politics in the workplace, AI, dystopia, and reparations vis-a-vis time traveling Black queer and gender expansive characters. Robinson’s piece addresses a woman coming of age in the Nation of Islam, while Davis’ and Freeman’s pieces are autobiographical monologues.
