On July 2nd, Sikivu, author of Rock ‘n’ Roll Heretic: The Life and Times of Rory Tharpe and youth musician Zorrie Petrus will be in conversation with novelist Kenya Nelson on her debut novel, Ungrateful, a searing portrait of a young Black woman musician navigating the rock and r&b music industries. This discussion will center on Black women’s role in rock music innovation, self-determination in sexist/racist/ageist/homophobic white corporate rock and utilizing fiction as a platform for connecting with BIPOC young female audiences.
