Black LGBTQ Parent Panel 2023

Across the nation, LGBTQ+ rights are under attack by right wing politicians, white Christian fundamentalists, school boards, and community groups. At the same time, within our own communities, Black LGBTQIA+ youth continue to experience homophobia, transphobia, and other macro/microaggressions that cause trauma and harm. How are Black parents, caregivers, and families mobilizing against these attacks to provide support and positive affirmation? What proactive steps can parents, caregivers and community allies take to ensure wellness and joy for Black queer youth?

Featuring the work of Dr. Kamela Heyward-Rotimi, this session will highlight Black humanist and culturally responsive resources, best practices, and strategies from the perspective of Black parent/caregivers in advocacy, school-based, and mental health spaces.
