Sikivu Hutchinson’s new original narrative short film “Alpha Centauri” focuses on the disproportionate impact of grooming and trafficking on Black girls and young women. Far too often, the perspectives of young Black women and girls are marginalized in mainstream media representation when it comes to the devastating impact of gender-based violence, victim-blaming, shaming, misogynoir and religious indoctrination. “Alpha Centauri” centers a Black girl foster youth, atheist, and aspiring robotics engineer navigating mammoth life challenges and Black girl nerdship in South L.A.
Alpha Centauri shoots in South L.A. in July with Sika Stevens (DP) and actors Nicole Delorme, Breana Travis, Jessica Robinson and Phillip McNair.
